Craig & MaryAnn started teaching round dancing together in 1991, in Mountain View, CA.
Craig is a 3rd generation square & round dancer. Starting out dancing as a teenager in Fremont, CA Craig starting round dancing at Phase 3 and fast tracking to Phase 5 with Clark & Maxine Smith. After moving to Seattle, WA Craig joined the teacher.s association in Seattle and started working with Doug & Janet Seavy who were instrumental in training youth dancers for competition and exhibitions. MaryAnn got involved in Square & Round Dancing & Clogging as a teenager with Teasin. Teens in Medford, OR under Denny Lantz & Randy Dibble. Upon moving to Northern California, MaryAnn partnered with Craig Cowan for 10 years, where they started teaching Round Dancing in Mt View, CA. After Craig moved to Seattle, MaryAnn danced & choreographed several routines with Milo Molitoris, then with Brian Wyatt. Craig continued to be an active participant in round dancing in Seattle & Sandpoint, ID.
Based in Northern California, MaryAnn cues & teaches Phase 2 through 6, currently teaching a Phase 3-4 Transition class where students concentrate on proper dance position, figures & execution of figures, and lead/follow in the different rhythms, a Phase 4-5 and a Ph 4-6 Carousel Club #325 called "Moonlight Dancers", that she and Craig had originally started.
MaryAnn & Craig still square dance, MaryAnn to Challenge C-1 Craig to Advance A-2. MaryAnn has taught and or cued at several Annual California State Festivals, at ICBDA conventions (formerly URDC) in; Joplin, MO, Winston-Salem, NC, San Jose, CA, and San Antonio, TX, Silver State Square & Round Dance Festival, Reno NV, the Washington State Square & Round Dance Festival and recently at the Oregon State Summer Festival.
MaryAnn & Craig have refreshed their partnership & they are scheduled in the near future at the North State Square & Round Dance Festival Redding CA, Silver State Square & Round Dance Festival Reno NV.They are also privileged to be working with Daryl Lipscomb at McCloud Dance County's A2 week.
They are members of ROUNDALAB, Northern California Round Dance Teacher.s Association (NCRDTA); Dixie Round Dance Council (DRDC), Callers & Cuers Association of Modesto Area (CAMA), and International Choreographed Ballroom Dance Association (ICBDA, formerly URDC); where MaryAnn was part of the Technical Advisory Committee for figure development.
